Summary:

Re:wild seeks a Government Grants Manager to provide organization-wide services in administration and financial management of grants from the U.S. government; grants from other governmental/multilateral entities, such as the European Union, the United Kingdom, and GEF (Global Environment Facility); and certain other complex funding awards with an international scope. The Government Grants Manager administers or supports these grant awards throughout the grant lifecycle, including in proposal and budget preparation, expenditure monitoring and reporting, subaward monitoring and partner support, compliance oversight, audit support, and maintenance of master agreement files. S/he works closely with finance staff, project managers, and subrecipients to ensure that the terms and conditions of agreements are met and properly documented. The Government Grants Manager possesses detailed knowledge of rules and regulations for U.S. federal grants; the ideal candidate also possesses or is willing to acquire an equivalent skill set for grants from other governments, multilateral donors, or public funding sources. This position reports to the Director of Award Administration and Partner Success.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the planning and preparation of government grant proposals; provides guidance and assistance to programmatic and operations staff in the interpretation of funding agency regulations and requirements.

  • Monitors and coordinates the post-award administration of grants to ensure that financial, administrative, and procurement policies, procedures, and agency requirements are being followed. Manages administrative problems and/or budget changes occurring during the awarded grant period. Advises programmatic and operations staff on relevant requirements.

  • Supports finance and program staff in timely grant financial reporting and submission of other deliverables. Monitors burn rate and variance of actual costs versus budget, including cost-share obligations and effort. Oversees and coordinates record retention requirements for government-funded projects.

  • Regularly reviews and certifies Re:wild and subrecipient transactions and documentation for allowability and compliance. Supports audit processes, including U.S. government single audit.

  • Manages administrative aspects of grants and contracts out to subrecipients using government funds, including assistance with due diligence activities, subaward preparation and revision of agreements, monitoring adherence to terms and conditions, and maintaining grant files and documentation. Supports subrecipients and program staff with subaward compliance.

  • Supports the development or improvement of systems and workflows related to the administration of government grants. Trains Re:wild and subrecipient organization staff in the best-in-class administration of government and complex grant awards, including budgeting, compliance with award terms, reporting, and other associated topics.

  • Contributes on an ongoing basis to cross-departmental and organizational projects and priorities. Works with the Finance and Ops team, and others as needed, to identify issues and craft solutions.

  • The Government Grants Manager supervises no staff and provides guidance to colleagues.

Competencies / Qualifications:

  • Education / Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 5 years of relevant experience in grants administration, or equivalent combination.

  • Government Grants Knowledge: Extensive technical expertise with U.S. federal grant administration required, including thorough knowledge of Uniform Guidance. Demonstrated experience working with partners outside of the US, especially on grants funded by USAID, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and/or U.S. Dept. of State. The preferred candidate also has experience with European Union funding. Possesses ability to analyze regulatory frameworks and apply them to the situation at hand. Experience reading, understanding and negotiating standard contract clauses.

  • Revenue/Finance Knowledge: Experience developing project-level budgets. Experience with grants accounting and financial reporting to donors and/or government agencies. Ability to read and comprehend financial reports; ability to generate financial reports from various systems as needed.

  • Organizational Skills: Ability to meet deadlines and due dates. Strong attention to detail, with ability to maintain records (both electronic and manual) to comply with record retention requirements.

  • Problem Solving: Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Gathers and analyzes information skillfully. Develops alternative solutions. Works well in group problem-solving situations. Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.

  • Project Management: Develops project plans. Coordinates projects. Communicates changes and progress. Completes projects on time and within the approved budget. Manages project team activities.

  • Conservation-minded: An innate desire to contribute meaningfully to the conservation of biodiversity and an ability and curiosity to continue learning about the natural world.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with GAAP, fund accounting and/or non-profit accounting principles, practices, and regulations.

  • Experience managing European Union-funded awards. Experience with other multilateral or quasi-governmental donors, particularly with an international scope.

  • Experience engaging/coordinating with auditors as part of government grant compliance requirements.

  • Experience using Salesforce (NP Cloud/Grant Making) for managing awards and subawards.

  • May require technical expertise on more complex accounting/financial issues.

  • Multilingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated. 

Compensation and Benefits:

  • This is a full-time, exempt position.

  • Projected salary range of $65,000 – $90,000 with the final determination to be made commensurate with the candidate’s experience. 

  • Re:wild provides medical, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance, with Re:wild covering 80% or more of the premiums. Re:wild also offers a 403b retirement plan with up to 3% match after a year of employment.

  • Re:wild observes 16 paid holidays each calendar year. Full-time employees can also accrue the following annually: up to 15 days of vacation leave, 12 days of illness leave and 2 volunteer days.

Additional details:

  • Travel: Estimate 2-4 domestic or international trips per year, as needed. The position may require working outside of normal business hours to engage with staff and partners located in different time zones around the world.
