PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The role of the Exploration Program Manager is to develop and manage the Lost Species program and develop a wider exploration program for Re:wild.
The Exploration Program Manager will perform the following and other duties as assigned:
Manage the Lost Species program
Maintain, manage and regularly update the list of Lost Species in partnership with the IUCN Species Survival Commission.
Maintain open communication and collaboration internally around the Lost Species program.
Manage funds and grants associated with the Lost Species program.
Implement global outreach to find people and organizations excited to search for specific Lost Species.
Develop academic partnerships around research on Lost Species.
Manage and develop global partnerships.
Manage partnerships for Lost Species
Manage existing partnerships around the Search for Lost Birds, Fishes, and Sharks and develop other comprehensive search partnerships.
Identify partners to undertake lost species searches.
Support partners in planning and implementing searches.
Support partners in fundraising for searches.
Manage partners through all stages of searches.
Fundraise for Re:wild’s exploration work
Develop fundraising proposals.
Collaborate with other parts of Re:wild to approach potential funders.
Support communications around Lost Species searches and other expeditions
Assist the Re:wild communications and marketing team on Lost Species communications, including press releases, blog posts, video scripts, social media, newsletters, website content and updates, lost species profiles, etc.
Help source photos and illustrations for new lost species lists.
Work with communications team on logistics for reporters and videographers/photographers to go out on expeditions.
Create a management system for all Lost Species communications collateral.
Support partners in sourcing communications collateral during searches.
Conduct media interviews as required.
Develop a wider exploration program for Re:wild
Create and develop an exploration program beyond Lost Species that supports Re:wild’s place-based and strategy-based programs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Commitment to and passion for Re:wild’s mission, vision, and values.
5+ years of experience in conservation.
Extensive experience organizing and implementing expeditions.
Demonstrated corporate and individual fundraising ability.
Strong communications and storytelling skills, including writing, correspondence, and public speaking.
Visual media (video, photography, editing) expertise.
Demonstrated ability to work with and develop local partners.
Ability and interest to travel to remote field sites.
Ability to work independently but also as part of a team.
Strong knowledge of current wildlife conservation issues and trends.
Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in a relevant field preferred.
Ability to speak other languages preferred.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This is a full-time, exempt, position.
Projected salary range of $75,000-$90,000 with the final determination to be made commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
Re:wild provides medical, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance, with Re:wild covering 80% or more of the premiums. Re:wild also offers a 403b retirement plan with up to 3% match after a year of employment.
Re:wild observes 16 paid holidays each calendar year. Half-time employees can also accrue the following annually: up to 15 days of vacation leave, 12 days of illness leave and 2 volunteer days.
Additional details:
Travel: Estimate 3-6 domestic or international trips per year, as needed.
The position may require working outside of normal business hours to engage with staff and partners located in different time zones around the world.
