The Chief of Staff (COS) is an organization-wide support leader who is a catalyst for the CEO’s priorities and the overall effectiveness of Re:wild. The CEO relies on the COS for decision-making, project management and execution of strategic initiatives across the organization on behalf of the CEO. Internally, the COS serves as an advisor, collaborator and implementer of identified and ongoing priorities across all departments and spanning a broad range of topics. Externally, the COS will build and manage strategic collaborations, including but not limited to complex donor relations, corporate partnerships and high-level events. The purpose of this dynamic role is to maximize the effectiveness of the CEO and the leadership team as a whole, driving forward Re:wild’s mission of being a force-multiplier in conservation.
The COS role has several responsibilities focused on making time, information and decision processes more effective for the CEO and leadership team, acting as a liaison between departments to ensure that all team members are not only functioning effectively, but thriving. The COS is a versatile thought-partner to help manage the CEO’s various commitments in addition to independently executed projects and initiatives.
Strategic Initiative Planning and Execution:
Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives aligned with Re:wild's mission and long-term goals.
Monitor progress on key strategic priorities and initiatives, providing regular updates and analysis to leadership.
Special Projects:
Help to delegate and oversee special projects, especially ones that overlap among Programs, Philanthropy, Communications, and Operations.
Convene diverse stakeholders and drive decision-making processes, ensuring that projects stay on track and align with Re:wild’s strategic goals.
Assist Executive Vice President in programmatic coordination as needed.
Team Leadership and Development:
Provide leadership and guidance to help foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
Facilitate meetings and special events that are crucial for strategic alignment and team cohesion. These may include Board of Directors meetings, management meetings, and other meetings of key stakeholders.
Support professional development initiatives to enhance the skills and capabilities of team members.
External Relations and Stakeholder Engagement:
Support CEO in managing relationships with supporters and other constituents, including correspondence, outreach, meeting attendance and research.
Represent the organization in external meetings, conferences, and partnerships, building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including government agencies, NGOs, donors, and community leaders.
Work closely with the philanthropy partnership team to coordinate strategy, interactions, and communications of the executive office.
Communicate organizational mission, values, and impact effectively to external audiences.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, conservation biology, nonprofit management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 8 years of experience in a senior management role within a conservation organization or related field.
Planning: Strong strategic planning and implementation skills, with a track record of achieving organizational objectives.
Leadership: Excellent leadership and management abilities, with experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
Interpersonal skills: The ability to influence without managing by building strong relationships, understanding people’s motivations, and meeting people where they are.
Communication: Exceptional communication, both written and verbal. Ability to represent the organization, and the CEO in particular, with diverse stakeholders.
Problem Solving: Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Gathers and analyzes information skillfully. Develops alternative solutions. Works well in group problem-solving situations. Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
Project Management: Develops project plans. Coordinates projects. Communicates changes and progress. Completes projects on time and within the approved budget. Manages project team activities.
Conservation-minded: An innate desire to contribute meaningfully to the conservation of biodiversity and an ability and curiosity to continue learning about the natural world.
This is a full-time, exempt position.
Projected salary range of $120,000 - $140,000 with the final determination to be made commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
Re:wild provides medical, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance, with Re:wild covering 80% or more of the premiums. Re:wild also offers a 403b retirement plan with up to 3% match after a year of employment.
Re:wild observes 16 paid holidays each calendar year. Full-time employees can also accrue the following annually: up to 15 days of vacation leave, 12 days of illness leave and 2 volunteer days.
Travel/hours: Frequent domestic and international travel to meet with key stakeholders. The position may require working outside of normal business hours to engage with donors, partners, and staff located in different time zones around the world.
