North America

North America's ecosystems rival the world's most celebrated conservation areas for biodiversity. But community organizations are chronically underfunded, Indigenous-led conservation is underrecognized, and many of the region's most critical landscapes get almost no attention. Re:wild is here to change that.

Wild, overlooked, and worth fighting for.

From the coastal waters of the Pacific Northwest to the species-rich Appalachian mountains, North America's ecosystems are globally significant. Appalachia alone rivals some of the world's most celebrated conservation areas for freshwater and amphibian diversity. And yet the organizations doing the work here are chronically underserved by philanthropy and government alike.

Re:wild is working to change that by strengthening networks of community-based organizations, particularly those led by Indigenous communities, and directing resources toward the places where meaningful impact is still possible.

One shared vision for a wild North America.

In 2024, Re:wild began scoping Appalachia Rising — a new initiative bringing greater attention and resources to conservation, climate, and community well-being across one of North America's most biodiverse and underserved regions.

The Appalachian forests, grasslands, and freshwater systems rival some of the world's most celebrated conservation areas. They deserve to be treated that way.
