Alrededor del 40% de las especies de ranas arlequín del mundo llevan más de dos décadas desaparecidas para la ciencia, muchas de ellas a pesar de los intensos esfuerzos realizados para encontrarlas.

El miércoles 14 de octubre a las 11:00 h (hora del Este), únete a Reverse the Red y a la iniciativa «Search for Lost Species» de Re:wild para participar en una conversación en español sobre lo que supone la búsqueda de las ranas s arlequín desaparecidos y lo que ocurre cuando se les encuentra. Moderado por Lina Valencia, copresidenta del Grupo de Trabajo Atelopus del Grupo de Especialistas de la IUCN, miembro  de la Iniciativa de Supervivencia Atelopus y gerente  de Re:wild para los países andinos, el seminario web contará con la participación de:

About 40% of the world’s harlequin frog species have been lost to science for more than two decades, many of them despite intensive efforts to find them.

On Wednesday, October 14, at 11:00 a.m. (ET), join Reverse the Red and Re:wild’s Search for Lost Species initiative for a conversation in Spanish about the search for lost harlequin toads and what happens when they are found. Moderated by Lina Valencia, co-chair of the IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group Atelopus Task Force, member of the Atelopus Survival Initiative, and Re:wild’s manager for Andean countries, the webinar will feature:

la Dra. Margarita Lampo, investigadora del Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas y copresidenta copresidenta del Grupo de Trabajo Atelopus del Grupo de Especialistas de la IUCN, miembro, que hablará sobre la reintroducción del sapo arlequín de Rancho Grande en Venezuela, redescubierto tras temerse su extinción.

Andrea Terán, directora del Banco de Vida del Centro Jambatu de Investigación y Conservación de Anfibios y miembro dell Grupo de Trabajo Atelopus del Grupo de Especialistas de la IUCN y de la Iniciativa de Supervivencia Atelopus, sobre la reciente suelta de más de 2.300 sapos arlequines de Limón en Ecuador.

Francisco Nava, biólogo del Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas y miembro de la Iniciativa de Supervivencia Atelopus, sobre el trabajo con las comunidades locales para buscar al sapo arlequín escarlata, que sigue desaparecido.

Jefferson Villalba Fuentes, director de la Fundación Atelopus y miembro de la Iniciativa de Supervivencia Atelopus, sobre el redescubrimiento del sapo arlequín de la «Noche estrellada» y el papel fundamental de los conocimientos indígenas.

Dr. Margarita Lampo, a researcher at the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research and co-chair of the IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group Atelopus Task Force, and member of the Atelopus Survival Initiative, who will discuss the reintroduction of the Rancho Grande Harlequin Toad in Venezuela, rediscovered after it was feared to be extinct.

Andrea Terán, director of the Life Bank at the Jambatu Center for Amphibian Research and Conservation and a member of the IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group Atelopus Task Force and the Atelopus Survival Initiative, on the recent release of more than 2,300 Limón Harlequin Toads in Ecuador

Francisco Nava, a biologist at the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research and a member of the Atelopus Survival Initiative, on working with local communities on the continued search for the Scarlet Harlequin Toad
