Alexandra Climent is a rainforest conservationist, sculptural artist, and the founder of Endangered Rainforest Rescue, a women and Indigenous led nonprofit working to protect primary forests and restore biodiversity in the Darién Gap of Panamá. Her work focuses on preserving one of the world’s most ecologically critical regions, which serves as a natural bridge between North and South America and plays a vital role in global climate stability.
For several years, Alexandra has led expeditions into the Darién’s unexplored terrain to locate endangered tree species. She gathers seeds from native trees and, alongside her team, has established nurseries in Indigenous communities to cultivate seedlings for reforestation. In 2022, her organization identified a critical fragmented area in the largest patch of deforestation in the region. This disruption breaks the continuity of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, an ecological highway for wildlife movement through Central America. Today, Alexandra and her team are working to restore and protect this land by creating a continuous ecological corridor along the Chucunaque River, Panama’s longest, which will provide safe passage for endangered species including the jaguar.
Alexandra’s artistic practice is deeply intertwined with her conservation work. She creates sculptural pieces from fallen trees in the rainforest, using some of the world’s most dense and stunning tropical hardwoods. Through her art, she aims to capture the beauty of the rainforest and amplify its urgent need for protection.
In 2023, Alexandra was selected as the United States Country Leader for the G20 Changemaker Summit. She is also an ambassador for the United Nations SDG Action Campaign and a member of The Explorers Club, where she was invited to speak as a Next Generation Explorer at the Annual Dinner in 2023 and during Climate Week in 2024 alongside the Duchess of York. She was also a keynote speaker at COP 16 in Cali, Colombia.
